With a great story behind it.... now it's getting a full vinyl re-issue!

The film takes place during the 17th century period of slave trading and of the introduction of Christianity and Islam in West Africa. The adherents of these religions all desired and hoped to pack their buildings, mosques, or churches, by whatever means necessary. Arms and alcohol began to appear, as well as shoddy goods--gadgets from another era. Anyone with a rifle tracked down and traded men, women, and children. Man became money. After having converted the royal family and government dignitaries, the Imam encounters the refusal of the "Ceddo". For the Ceddo, adhering to Islam or to Catholicism would mean renouncing African spiritualism, and giving up being themselves. To accomplish his goals, the Imam usurps the throne with the complicity of the dignitaries--similar to the coups d'Etat of our days. Combining spiritual and temporal power, the Imam reduces the recalcitrant to slavery in exchange for rifles. He obliges the others by force of arms to accept Islam. Ceddo is a film of reflection, bringing together bits and pieces of facts and authentic events that took place in a period spanning the centuries up to the present day.

TRACKLIST

1. His deep growl of a honey and sandpaper voice and the energetic honk of his saxophone merge with the seamless samples and the myriad hand percussion and overt funkiness of his band. Herbie Hancock plays on three tracks, contributing an amazing electric piano solo on the title track and interacting with Manu’s sax while weaving to the warp of Mory Kante’s kora during “L’arbre a Palabres.” Similarly but more subtly, Laswell, Badarou, and Worrell play dueling synthesizers in and around the band throughout ”Pata Piya.” All of this makes the album a hypnotic & upbeat Afro-Funk classic that will rock every part of your body (and mind).

TRACKLIST

Pata Piya

Electric Africa

Echos Beti

L’Arbre A Palabres

LISTEN

Available on Desktop & Mobile

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0620/6947/3471/products/large_550_tmp_2F1502140128465-9nc5apfnu6r-4e83c0356f51e58e77de03268e54166a_2F092624999433.jpg?v=1661965252
manu-dibango-afrovision-lp-vinyl-record
Afrovision [Import]

** This is a BACKORDER item.
