The release became one of the most eccentric and scandalous albums of its time and remains one of the most sought-after gems in the history of discography. It was unusual at the time for women to sing such explicit songs, and it may have helped bring the album into the spotlight and make it attractive to a wider audience. Despite many controversies and scandals due to its provocative title and its immediately recognizable raunchy cover, the album managed to find its fans and become one of the best-selling albums on the label.

However, despite delivering the highest quality of music, it remained famous for its scandalous cover image (poster included in the kit of course…). This image was chosen to reflect the bold and experimental nature of the songs on the album and it caused a real societal outrage at the time. The LP was banned from many stores which only spurred further interest in the LP and of the most controversial covers in the history of music.

The 10-track album, performed by Fay Richmond, Angelina, Miss D, and Saul T. Peter, was one of the first albums to introduce many new provocative themes in the songs. Despite its suggestive nature, the album’s music was endearingly soft and romantic. Although the album outreached to a mass audience with its love-related themes, it was also recognized for its jazz explorations performed by Saul T. Peter.

The most popular song on the album was the song “My Pussy Belongs to Daddy”, performed by Fay Richmond. Initially shocking due to its provocative title, it eventually became an iconic release of the 1950s. The same thing happened to the LP as a whole – its playful and delicate content captivated even the hardiest of connoisseurs. You’ll find yourself running to the turntable and dropping the needle back to the starting groove time and time again while being completely captivated by the moods and the sounds of this amazing LP.

This was happening at a time when multiple changes were taking place in the world of music – in particular the inception of rock and roll and new emerging genres such as soul, funk, and blues rock. And although “My Pussy Belongs To Daddy” is completely true to its roots in jazz, swing, and easy listening, we can already witness to the voice of change on the LP. “My Pussy Belongs to Daddy” is a mixture of genres and dance music which was popular in the 50s and which developed as a result of many intertwined cultural and musical influences. This compilation later became popular with the ‘in’, R&B, crowd and contributed to the evolution of the style. Together, these artists created landmark music that demonstrated that sexual innuendo and comical double entendres can be a part of serious musical expression. Today, more than 65 years after its first release, the compilation album “My Pussy Belongs to Daddy” remains not only an exceptional collector’s gem but also an important historical document portraying a specific turning point in the musical history of the US in the 1950s.

Incendiary melodies, fantastic arrangements, performance skills, daring lyrics, friendly irony and humor, and boundless spirit of freedom, boldness, and honesty made this release gain a cult following and a desirable collector’s artifact. Despite the provocative title, the songs on the album are not sexual in nature and do not contain vulgar words. It’s a subtle, poetic balance between erotic meaning and innocence – an honest flirtation never being overshadowed by vulgarity. My Pussy Belongs To Daddy" became a kind of manifesto for the sexual liberation movement that shook America in the middle of the 20th century. It states clearly there is no place for taboos, boundaries, and stereotypes – there is only a free, explosive, and incredibly piquant sound that opens up completely new facets of musical art for the listener. The perfect balance between eroticism and good taste is what makes this compilation a real masterpiece. Musical numbers on the album will appeal to both experimental music connoisseurs and sophisticated sound lovers. You will definitely fall head over heels for each song on this LP combining nostalgic musical landscapes and skillful performances.

This exclusive re-release has been protected from remastering to preserve the original sound and convey the message emanating from that specific moment in musical history. The sound restoration was performed by the Grammy-nominated sound engineer Jessica Thompson, who preserved all the subtleties and nuances of the original sound of the music.

If you’d like, try to compare it to the original. But first, be ready to queue up at a bidding auction for a not-so-great copy of a record that costs several hundreds of dollars… If you can finally outbid for it and get it – you’ll be amazed by the audio restoration we’ve done for this release. It will be as looking at the Northern Lights from an old postcard to seeing the real thing in the North.

The re-release will be an excellent opportunity for a new generation of music fans and musicologists to get acquainted with this unique recording, which remains one of the most impressive and provocative recordings released in its time. Listeners will be able to enjoy early sound recording experiments and discover the unique creative approach of the artists who created this music.

“My Pussy Belongs To Daddy” is not just music, it is a cultural heritage that needs to be preserved and passed on from generation to generation. Fronted by punk poet/composer Chris D. (Desjardins), the band was a satellite for exquisite collaborators that allowed him to bring the full force of his dark, messed-up lyrical nightmares. Members of X, Wall Of Voodoo, Los Lobos, The Blasters, and The Plugz all hopped into his unmarked car to take a drive with Chris D. Its grabbed-by-the-throat vocals are powerfully buoyed by the tight melodicism emanating from the players on this record (John Doe and DJ Bonebrake from X, Steve Berlin of Los Lobos, Dave Alvin & Bill Bateman of The Blasters). Hell, we even get the perfectly executed John Doe original, “Cyrano de Berger’s Back,” which was re-recorded by X in 1987. The creators of this record made a pulp novel for your ears with an equal chance to scar your heart. Adele and her band pull it off right from the start as if it had been 1966 and it was time for a revolution to shake the dust from the old-time jazz.

In a perfect way, she mixes classic American vocal jazz elements with playful and more free passages, Latin music, and tribal African sounds in the lengthy and quite rhythm-oriented "Man From Tanganyika" and makes the title track start with a mystical "Allahu akbar" chant while it turns more and more into a dark and gloomy song with something like a psychedelic edge reminiscent of Pharoah Sanders on his early works. Wild rhythms from drums and percussions with tons of bells and chimes weave a thick groove carpet and conjure a magical atmosphere. The house of the troubadours. It's a place of almost mythical status in Cuban music, the home of so many of the glorious songs that have come out of the island. Even Paul McCartney has made his pilgrimage there. For Alejandro Almenares, it's a place he visits every single day, still carrying his guitar as he goes to play and talk with friends. And it's the inspiration behind his album Casa De Trova(Tumi Records: release: February 25, 2014). For Almenares, the connection to the house is deep. His musician father, Angel Sanchez Almenares, was one of the founders of the Casa.

"I was there when it all began, too," he recalls. "I grew up listening to them playing there, the trovas and soneros. I'm 76 now. I'm the last of the founders still alive." It's a house filled with memories of all the tunes that have filled the air over the years – and still do. As a child, Almenares took them all in as naturally as breathing. When he was 10 years old he began attending music school staying until he was 14, "when I had to quit in order to work and help my parents."Two years later he was a professional musician, playing the music his father had written and performed in groups like Los Taínos, Trio Oriente, and Las Guitarras Internacionales. A lifetime of music, and, he adds with a smile, "so many bands that the number and names escape me now."

If you're a fan of the Buena Vista Social Club, this guy's gonna make them seem like a bunch of posers. Composer, vocalist, and tres guitarist, Alejandro Almenares delivers the real thing from Cuba here on this set. This double vinyl set contains the same songs (although in a different order); the difference is that the first features his rich and full voice, while the second features his material as (mostly) instrumentals. Flutes, percussion, violin, soprano sax, guitars, and intermittent vocal choruses accompany Almenares on the gentle and fragrant instrumental takes of "No Critiques Al Nene" and "La Nina Que Yo Ame", while vocalists Tony Rodon, Eva Grinan, Jose Cabrera and Ismael Borges deliver tales of passion on "Mujercita "Linda", A Tu Retrato", "Te Vi Y Te Contemple" and "De Lo Que Quiero Saber" respectively. The simplicity of the old-world charms is on abundant display here. No gimmicks, no frills, just earnest notes, and, like the best of cooks, letting the simple ingredients do all the work in creating the flavor that makes your mouth water. Essential listening! He returned to salute the legendary vocalist on several occasions since then, with this recording likely being his final tribute, recorded less than a year before his own death. Waldron, who worked with Holiday during her last years, is intimately familiar with her takes of the six standards heard on this disc, along with her own "Lady Sings the Blues." Archie Shepp's often gritty tenor sax is reminiscent of the texture of Holiday's voice, yet he perfectly complements Waldron's lush piano. They also pack a punch with their stark performance of "Left Alone" (Shepp's occasional reed squeaks seem deliberate, as if to imitate breaks in her voice). Waldron also recites Holiday's lyrics set to his composition at the conclusion of the LP. Shepp switches to soprano sax for an emotional take of "Everything Happens to Me" and "I Only Have Eyes for You," with the latter song sounding as if the unheard singer is being ignored by her love interest. Shepp's "Blues for 52nd Street" is both sassy and swinging. Comprised of four standards - "Things Ain't What They Used to Be," "Body and Soul," "Pannonica," and "'Round Midnight" - this set is one of Shepp's most enjoyable ever. The reasons are myriad, but it is in large part due to the fluid, loping bass of Richard Davis. Recorded in a club in front of a live audience, Shepp digs deep into his own history of influential tenor players and comes out not wanting, but on par with them, from Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis to Sonny Rollins to John Coltrane. His playing here is big, meaty, and warm, full of subtle emotions as well as bleating cries. Davis' sense of time and melody is nearly incredible on the title track and on "Round Midnight." The interplay Shepp shares with him is tasty, coming from fragmentary elements in Monk's changes; Shepp and Davis move around the lyric and cut to the heart of the tune's color and ambiguity. It's a haunting version and one that offers a completely different reading of the tune over 17 minutes. A majority of the attention directed at Alice's Restaurant focuses on the epic 18-plus-minute title track, which sprawled over the entire A-side of the long-player. However, it is the other half-dozen Guthrie compositions that provide an insight into his uniformly outstanding, yet astoundingly overlooked, early sides on Warner Bros. Although arguably not 100 percent factual, "Alice's Restaurant Massacree" - which was recorded in front of a live audience - is rooted in a series of real incidents.

This decidedly anti-establishment saga of garbage dumps closed on Thanksgiving, good ol' Officer Obie, as well as Guthrie's experiences with the draft succeeds not only because of the unusual and outlandish situations that the hero finds himself in; it is also his underdog point of view and sardonic delivery that maximize the effect in the retelling. In terms of artistic merit, the studio side is an equally endowed effort containing six decidedly more traditional folk-rock compositions. Among the standouts are the haunting "Chilling of the Evening," which is given an arrangement perhaps more aptly suited to a Jimmy Webb/Glen Campbell collaboration.

There is a somewhat dated charm in "Ring-Around-a-Rosy Rag," a sly, uptempo, and hippie-friendly bit of jug band nostalgia. "I'm Going Home" is an underrated minor-chord masterpiece that is not only reminiscent of Roger McGuinn's "Ballad of Easy Rider," but also spotlights a more sensitive and intricate nature to Guthrie's craftsmanship. Also worth mentioning is the first installment of "The Motorcycle Song" - which was updated and discussed further on the live self-titled follow-up release Arlo (1968) - notable for the extended discourse on the "significance of the pickle.". His best albums married the boogie-woogie piano stylings of the great Pete Johnson with a jazzy jumpin' horn section. Boss Of The Blues is arguably Joe's best recording, in part because he sang with particular gusto during these 1956 sessions. At the time, Boss of the Blues marked a nostalgic return to the jump-blues style that Turner helped pioneer in the "40s. Besides Johnson, Boss featured some of Kansas City's finest ever jazzmen and various members of Count Basie's band, including Joe Newman (trumpet), Pete Brown (alto sax), Lawrence Brown (trombone), Frank Wess (tenor sax) and Freddie Green (guitar). The bawdy "Cherry Red" and the rollicking "Roll 'Em Pete" are my favorite Turner-Johnson collaborations. Both feature some incredible playing by the piano master. Turner's versions of "I Want a Little Girl," "Low Down Dog," "You're Driving Me Crazy," and "Morning Glories" are definitive. Arrangements simply for piano and guitar are rare in Jazz, and it is even more seldom that the results are truly inspiring and as musically worthwhile as in this case. It is usual for intuitive musical relationships to develop over a number of years, but here we find two musicians who clearly shared an immediate understanding. Both men are on absolute top form here - Bill Evans was on fire throughout the early and mid-sixties, and after the tragic death of his previous musical partner, virtuoso bass player Scott Le Faro (at the age of 23), he was searching for new directions.

Jim Hall is a guitarist of tremendous skill and powerful technique, with a highly developed rhythmic and harmonic sense that shines through on this album. A profoundly spiritual effort that channels both the intellectual complexity of the avant-garde as well as the emotional potency of gospel, its focus and assurance belie Billy Harper's inexperience as a leader. Backed by an all-star supporting unit including trombonist Julian Priester and drummer Billy Cobham, Harper's tenor summons the brute force and mystical resolve of John Coltrane but transcends its influences to communicate thoughts and feelings both idiosyncratic and universal. This is music of remarkable corporeal substance that somehow expresses the pure language of the soul.

TRACKLIST

Capra Black

Sir Galahad

New Breed

Soulfully

I Love You/Black Spiritual Of Love

Cry Of Hunger

LISTEN

Available on Desktop & Mobile
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0620/6947/3471/files/tmp_2F1516213523919-d4xyutkfog-c40ddd3978726ba18550ea304a337560_2FBilly_2BHArper.jpg?v=1713909280
freedom-of-speech-billy-parkers-fourth-world-lp
Freedom Of Speech [Import]

KEY FEATURES

1xLP pressed on 180-Gram Audiophile Black Vinyl

Spins at 33 RPM

Housed in a standard sleeve

RELEASE DESCRIPTION

Most of the musicians who gathered to record this fantastic spiritual jazz record for the Strata-East label on May 24th, 1974 had crossed each other's paths in various musical pairings over the preceding few years. Arguably, the Blood, Sweat & Tears that made this self-titled second album - consisting of five of the eight original members and four newcomers, including singer David Clayton-Thomas - was really a different group from the one that made "Child Is Father to the Man", which was done largely under the direction of singer/songwriter/keyboard player/arranger Al Kooper.

They had certain similarities to the original: the musical mixture of classical, jazz, and rock elements was still apparent, and the interplay between the horns and the keyboards was still occurring, even if those instruments were being played by different people. Kooper was even still present as an arranger on two tracks, notably the initial hit "You've Made Me So Very Happy." But the second BS&T, under the aegis of producer James William Guercio, was a less adventurous unit, and, as fronted by Clayton-Thomas, a far more commercial one. Not only did the album contain three songs that neared the top of the charts as singles - "You've Made Me So Very Happy," "Spinning Wheel," and "And When I Die" - but the whole album, including an arrangement of "God Bless the Child" and the radical rewrite of Traffic's "Smiling Phases," was wonderfully accessible. It was a repertoire to build a career on, and Blood, Sweat & Tears did exactly that, although they never came close to equaling this album. An album of hauntingly beautiful songs penned by Bobbie herself bar one track. The album is an uncluttered, straight-down-the-line collection of smoky voiced gems, mostly with the simplest guitar accompaniment, but with a quirky, almost psychedelic twist on each track. The album is in a very similar vein and feel to Rodiguez'sstunning Cold fact which came out three years later, and side by side you would imagine the later album may have been inspired by Bobbie's seminal Ode To Billy Joe. Over the years they made many recordings together but this one is unique. Recorded whilst on a 1981 tour of Europe, Guy and Wells took a break from their backing musicians and amps to cut this spontaneous, all-acoustic set.

The results stand in stark contrast to the steamy Chicago blues the duo is best known for. Instead, these recordings are relaxed and personal, with an intimate, back porch feel. Guy switches between six and twelve-string guitars, and lays down rootsy acoustic rhythms for Well's tasteful harmonical lines. McBee as a pure musician has staggering technique, rich harmonic ideas, and an indefatigable swing, but it is as a composer that he is set apart from other musicians of this mid-'70s era. "Life Waves" is a stunning piece of composed and improvised music, with a brief clarion horn section setting off McBee's chordal strumming and harp bop drive. Trumpeter Tex Allen's brash lines, the incendiary tenor saxophonist George Adams, and more thoughtful alto saxophonist Allen Braufman dig into hefty but contrasting solos, while drummer Jimmy Hopps stokes the coals. The other premier piece, "Mutima," has a soaring longer melody switching on and off onto a samba palate that is pretty, beautiful, and much more introspective than other wild and woolly cuts. The legendary but under-recognized flutist Art Webb shines on the floaty free "A Feeling,' and the atypical but wholly contemporized "Tulsa Black," a portent to the music that would be made later in this time period by Sonny Fortune, featuring the wah-wah electric bass guitar work of Cecil McBee, Jr. The two-minute "Voice of the Seventh Angel" sports the disparity of a complex arrangement alongside the beautiful singing of a young Dee Dee Bridgewater, while the marathon "From Within" has McBee performing solo, but overdubbed on two basses in opposite stereo channels, using serene long-toned arco and static pizzicato in arresting sounds that meld into a bridge squawk reminiscent of the saxophone playing of bandmate Adams. In retrospect, McBee's great career was ostensibly launched well before this recording, having worked prominently with Charles Lloyd, Alice Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, Yusef Lateef, Charles Tolliver, and countless others. "Mutima" (translated as "unseen forces") undoubtedly solidified his stature and brilliance as a major player.

TRACKLIST

From Within

Voice Of The 7th Angel

Life Waves

Mutima

A Feeling

Tulsa Black

LISTEN

Available on Desktop & Mobile

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0620/6947/3471/files/tmp_2F1568763967367-ufub5i3pgxl-986f4f7ddb9621c8d8f9d5d3a492038f_2F0012328617_10.jpg?v=1713909336
music-from-the-source-cecil-mcbee-sextet-lp
Music From The Source [Import]

KEY FEATURES

1xLP pressed on 180-Gram Audiophile Black Vinyl

Spins at 33 RPM

Housed in a standard sleeve

Re-mastering by: Cicely Baston at Alchemy/Air Mastering

RELEASE DESCRIPTION

Recording with a sextet at the New York jazz club Sweet Basil in August 1977, McBee's band included Chico Freeman on reeds, Dennis Moorman on piano, Joe Gardner on trumpet, Steve McCall on drums, and Famoudou Don Moye on percussion. This particular recording has the best sound quality I've ever heard. The clarity is stunning and all the music is magnificent. The recording is so good, one can hear the sound of a musician's fingertips accidentally brushing across the bass strings, for example. Alvin Queen is always brilliant on the drums. The McBee original Wilpan's also highlights the strength of McBee's writing and is probably the pick of the tunes here.

TRACKLIST

Spanning

Wilpan’s

Our Second Father (Dedicated To The Memory Of John Coltrane)

LISTEN

Available on Desktop & Mobile
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0620/6947/3471/files/tmp_2F1621537382248-ntuots1h52-80651dd902b957512877e7a9a6696757_2Ftolliver.jpg?v=1713909416
live-at-slugs-volume-one-charles-tolliver-music-inc-lp
Live At Slugs' Volume One [Import]

KEY FEATURES

1xLP pressed on 180-Gram Audiophile Black Vinyl

Spins at 33 RPM

Housed in a standard sleeve

Remastering by: Ray Staff at Air Mastering, Lyndhurst Hall, London

RELEASE DESCRIPTION

Where have you gone, Charles Tolliver? There was such promise in the concept of Music Inc., and in Strata East, but evidently, the music world's attention was elsewhere and this tremendous live set was probably heard by only a few hundred sets of ears. On the back of the record sleeve, Tolliver undersigned his mission statement: "Music Inc. was created out of the desire to assemble men able to see the necessity for the survival of a heritage and an Art in the hopes that the sacrifices and high-level of communication between them will eventually reach every soul." And he isn't kidding. You won't find a much higher level of communication than he, Cecil McBee, Stanley Cowell, and Jimmy Hopps engaged in on May 1, 1970, at Slugs' in New York City. This was much more than an attempt to merely "preserve acoustic jazz' as in the stilted Marsalis vein. This was an attempt to preserve a measure of authenticity while maintaining the notion of forward-thinking, present-tense improvised music. They deserved a greater response than the lukewarm, sparse applause they received that night, and continue to deserve a far more cognizant audience for their efforts.

Tolliver ("Drought"), McBee ("Felicite"), and Cowell ("Orientale") each contribute a track to the set; though very much distinct, each is equally strong. "Drought" is the kind of dark-hued, well-honed burner that Tolliver routinely produced in his fertile years. "Felicite" is a more contemplative affair, a deeply felt and empathically performed piece; the unit here is in particularly sublime form, merging considerable skill with a staggering depth of emotion. "Orientale" falls somewhere in between the pace of the two, with Cowell's Eastern scales establishing an austere, industrious tone throughout its seventeen-and-a-half-minute length.

Through its duration, the music on Live at Slugs' is often riveting and incessantly compelling. Hopps is a lesser-known entity to me, but the other three players featured here are some of the all-time underrated presences in the jazz pantheon, and they play nothing short of masterfully. Always a presence on his recordings, Tolliver demonstrates tremendous range, flair, and command as a trumpeter and leader. Had he not come along at a time when pure jazz was falling out of favor, I have to believe his name (along with Woody Shaw's) would be every bit as prolific as Freddie Hubbard's or Lee Morgan's; the same holds for the always brilliant and expressive McBee on bass.

TRACKLIST

Drought

Felicite

Orientale

LISTEN

Available on Desktop & Mobile
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0620/6947/3471/files/tmp_2F1621536469297-z2i9059z42m-9208e10b9c1e41285c9a69085238a55f_2FAPPR_1972__163701__05072021113542-1851.jpg?v=1713909421
impact-charles-tollivermusic-inc-and-orchestra-lp
Impact [Import]

KEY FEATURES

1xLP pressed on 180-Gram Audiophile Black Vinyl

Spins at 33 RPM

Housed in a standard sleeve

Band includes 14 horns, eight strings, and a rhythm section

Arranged by trumpeter and flügelhornist, Charles Tolliver

RELEASE DESCRIPTION

Trumpeter/flügelhornist Charles Tolliver often straddled the line between the lyricism of hard bop and the adventurous nature of the avant-garde. Utilizing the uniquely modern arrangements of Johnny Mandel, Marty Paich, Jack Montrose, and Shorty Rogers, this interaction of "West Coast cool" with primordial elevator music escapes many - if not indeed all - of the potential sonic pitfalls such a marriage might suggest. In the truest sense of the word augmentation, the string arrangements provide the desired opulence sans the heavy-handed or syrupy residual effects.

Perhaps most inspiring about this outing is the success with which Baker and crew are able to thrive in this environment, providing subtle insight into the quintet's ability to simultaneously adapt and explore. "Love Walked In" incorporates a trademark volley of interaction between Baker and Sims. "Love" contains what is arguably the most successful implementation of the string section, as well as some stellar soloing by Freeman. In fact, his contributions to this particular recording rank among his finest with Baker and company. The same enthusiasm can likewise be applied to "A Little Duet for Zoot and Chet." Not only are Sims and Baker in top flight, but the string arrangement swings irresistibly as well. The easygoing and otherwise winding strings support the cool bop like a kite in a March breeze - light, airy, and conspicuous only in altitude. It's probably my favorite song here. But, "Broke Blues" is also exceptional. However, after her unexpected success on the pop charts, most of Washington's sessions for Mercury and Roulette during the last four years of her life were quite commercial, with string arrangements better suited to country singers and Washington nearly parodying herself with exaggerated gestures. Fortunately, this 1963 LP is an exception, a blues-oriented collection that features Washington returning to her roots, backed by a jazz-oriented big band (with occasional strings and background voices). His album Alabama Blues is the first recorded document by any blues poet, who included and incorporated very critically the social and political situation of black people living in the U.S.A. in the year 1965. Thus a musical document was created long before the black communities in the United States became proud of their heritage - their ROOTS. Jimi Hendrix was the first artist who acknowledged that J. B. Lenoir's work, preserved in this album, was a major part of his self-liberation and of finding his own identity, Though the Library of Congress has placed this album in its archives as an important part of American Musical History - comparable to Duke Ellington's "Black, Brown, and Beige Suite" for example - it was never released in the United States, and even in Europe its distribution was poor. Because of this, it has become one of the most searched-for collectors' items in music today. Cole is renowned for his big production numbers and pop hits such hits as "Stardust", but he was also an accomplished and unique jazz pianist and excelled in a small-group setting. Trombonist Juan Tizol performs a beautiful version of his Afro-Cuban tune "Caravan", and Cole and violinist Stuff Smith trade some hot licks on the up-tempo "I Know". For anybody looking into understand the depth and breadth of Cole's jazz roots, this disc is an excellent point of departure.

One of the unfortunate consequences of Nat "King" Cole's exquisite career as a vocalist is that many fans have forgotten what an exceptional pianist he was. Moreover, Cole influenced pianists as chronologically and geographically divergent as Oscar Peterson, Brazil's Tania Maria, and Diana Krall. After Midnight serves up equal doses of Cole's vocals and piano playing. From the lush beauty of "What Is There To Say" to the mid-tempo swing of "When I Grow Too Old To Dream" to the lightening quick "I Know That You Know", Cole confirms his place in both Popular Vocalist history and Jazz Piano history as well. In a recording featuring such luminaries as Harry "Sweets" Edison on trumpet, and the often forgotten violinist Stuff Smith, After Midnight is the perfect offering for any fan of the Nat "King" Cole Trio as well as those fans who are more familiar with Cole as a vocalist.
