RELEASE DESCRIPTION
RELEASE DESCRIPTION
For the Sun Explosion album, we are off to 1978 in Paris. Six years after his international breakthrough with the track Soul Makossa, Manu Dibango is on a roll after scoring a couple of films.
The previous year Manu returned to the studio with long-term collaborator and producer Roland Le Couviour and the engineer Claude Achallé to work on an artist album.
This Sun Explosion album features four tracks, which are all lengthy, straddling a series of styles from the lazy, reggae-jazz of opener Anty, to the more traditional afro-funk-jazz sound of Matumba for the A-side.
Keeping in mind that Disco was in the air in 1978, it’s now time to spin the records over to the B-side and to hear the sounds of the times that have made their way into the epic-funky strings of Motapo and the driving brass and funky xylophone of Sun Explosion.
A record that sounds surprisingly at home in today's current musical climate.
