This album features the first systematic compilation of the scores from both films, along with James Wong's rendition of "Happy to Make a Play," bringing back the sounds of Peking Opera's gongs and drums from thirty years ago.

Facing the complex character of Wei Xiaobao, who is neither a hero nor a thief, Wu Wai Lap deviated from traditional martial arts formulas. Drawing inspiration from the flowing melodies of Peking Opera's Xipi style, he stripped away the drawn-out, melodious tones and infused the music with modern rhythms and a humorous touch, creating a unique "Wei Xiaobao theme." This theme, as fluid and multifaceted as the character himself, forms the auditory thread running through both films.

As Hu Weili stated, "Music must speak for the character." Wei Xiaobao cannot recite poetry, but his wit, timidity, pride, and loyalty are all conveyed through the leaps and variations of the melody. This is not just background music, but a martial arts game written in the style of Peking Opera—seemingly absurd, but inwardly clear-headed; seemingly confused, but actually insightful.

Direct DAT master tape extraction, perfectly restoring the analog recording quality of the 1990s. Based on Mr. Hu Weili's treasured original DAT master tapes, high-resolution extraction was performed using Sony's flagship equipment, and mastering engineer Yan Chao was specially invited to perform targeted restoration. While preserving the warm dynamics of the 1990s analog recordings, the sharpness of the jinghu, the crispness of the xiaoluo, and the hoarse, heroic voice of Huang Zhan after drinking are all vividly presented, transcending time and remaining as fresh as ever.
